Momo Sushi Shack, Little Dragon & Saturday Brunch

Last night, J took me to Momo Sushi Shack for dinner. The owner, Phillip, is a friend of his and kept bringing us out food to try. Chef courtesy is one of those things that makes dining out a treat. We ordered the A-B Crubnchy roll, Hamachi Negi, Heritage Pork Belly with Egg, and Japanese Fried Chicken. The Chef sent us a Shrimp with Spicy Mayo and a couple of other items for us to try - then he invited us to his sandwich shop next door, and his head chef made us even more food. Let me just say the chicken gizzards confit, and the beef tongue carppacio were phenomenal. He also gave us an amazeballs crab avocado tartare served with a gluten-free shrimp shell and rice flour bread. CRAZY good. Most of the food we had was definitely not gluten-free. I took along with me a Gluten Digestive Enzyme and Benedryl to pre-emptively relieve stomach issues and skin hives.

Not one photo taken at dinner. Not a one. Just good conversation with my other half. 🙌

One bottle of hot sake, and a glass of cold sake later... we left for Brooklyn Bowl.

We arrived at Brooklyn Bowl early, and made it to our usual spots at stage right. J grabbed me a tequila gimlet from the bar, and a bit later, we ran into DJ Tony Touch and his girlfriend recording artist and DJ, Soni with an Eye. Little Dragon made us wait until after 12 to come on stage, but it was so worth it. Their light display was too much for my eyes, but I am so glad we made it to see them finally.

Afterwards; no bars, no after parties, no diners, just into a cab and home to bed. The perfect end to a perfect night. 😊

We usually balance a heavy dinner the night before with a light breakfast. J mentioned bagels an lox, of which there were neither in the house. But we did have cream cheese, and capers, and red onion and tomatoes... so off to the market I went. First up, I tried Saraghina, a cute little bakery in the neighborhood which makes fresh pastries, croissants and pasta. Unfortunately, they are primarily an Italian bakery, so they don't make bagels. Now, call me silly, but if you are one of the few fresh bakeries in the neighborhood, and no one else makes fresh bagels - wouldn't you make fresh bagels? Just saying... One of the other customers recommended I try Manny's, a quaint coffee shop and restaurant near by. I popped into Green Gourmet Market for smoked salmon, then walked over to Manny's. I waited almost 15 minutes for the kitchen to bag up 3 bagels for me because someone didn't get the point that I "just" wanted to buy some bagels and go home. I realize they were in the middle of brunch service, but it should have been relatively easy to bag them up to go for me. Oh well.

I slipped into Bed-Stuy Fresh and Local next door, grabbed some kale, scallions, fingerling potatoes and an avocado. On the way home, I remembered my grandson was almost out of diapers, so I stopped by a bodega and grabbed a pack before inching my way home. Cut up the fingerling potatoes, put a little EVOO in a pan, and seasoned them with Adobo, Sea Salt, Pepper and Thyme on a medium-low heat while I pulled the kale off their stems. Rinsed the leaves, then remembered there was Creamy Balsamic Dressing from a pasta salad I made a few days ago left in the fridge. Talk about a time-saver! I grabbed a container of fresh Parmigiano Reggiano cheese from the fridge and tossed the kale with it and the dressing. Insta-Yum! When the potatoes were finally done, (don't ask how long it took because I have no idea,) I split and toasted bagels for the family, smeared them with cream cheese and piled smoked salmon on top. Next up, I pulled containers of sliced red onion and tomatoes from the fridge left over from last week's burgers, adding them to the bagels, topping them with sliced scallions and capers.

My plan was to make myself some smoked salmon & cream cheese rolls, but then I remembered there were Food For Life Gluten-Free English Muffins in the freezer. Score!! I wrapped a paper towel around one, and put it in the microwave for 2 minutes on defrost, then cut it, put it in the toaster, and piled it with all the goodies the family enjoyed. It might not be a GF Bagel, but it was a pretty good substitute. :) My grandson Art LOVES avocados, so I sliced up a half for him, added a little EVOO, sea salt and white pepper and he was ready to join us for brunch! Of course, he prefers to be in his walker while he eats so he can eat and run... but hey, who blames him?!

So clearly I was not listening when Jarobi White told me Mechell N'degeocello was performing at Central Park SummerStage at 3pm. So instead of catching her live finally, I am sitting in bed with him and Art next to me, watching CNN, laptop on my lap working. Ugh and Grr.. I am supposed to be getting ready to go to my old assistant's wedding receoption and the Shinobi Ninja concert, but I don't think I'm going to make it out tonight.
